Information about the business and team
Our Client is an
organisation responsible for licensing the public performance and use of musical works on behalf of its members, including songwriters, composers and music publishers. The legal team operates as a lean, high-impact function supporting a broad range of commercial, corporate and regulatory matters across the business.

What does the client need help with?
You will be supporting the legal team during a period of increased demand driven by a combination of maternity leave cover, a team member moving into another function and a broader uplift in workload that can no longer be absorbed internally.

What will the role involve?
This is a broad in-house role with a strong emphasis on compliance. While you will support some corporate and commercial matters, particularly in relation to group company arrangements and joint ventures, the primary focus will be on managing and advising across a range of compliance projects and issues.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Taking ownership of compliance-focused projects, ensuring delivery across multiple workstreams
  • Supporting the development and enhancement of supplier due diligence and review processes to improve consistency and robustness
  • Leading on the implementation of an electronic conflicts of interest declaration process
  • Advising on compliance matters spanning areas such as economic crime, fraud, sanctions, competition law and modern slavery
  • Providing pragmatic, risk-based legal advice to stakeholders across the business as issues arise
  • Reviewing and adapting existing compliance policies to ensure they are fit for purpose and practically applicable
  • Overseeing data protection matters at a high level, including supervision of non-legal support handling DSR processes and managing escalations
  • Contributing to corporate and commercial workstreams, including joint venture arrangements, shareholder governance and customer relationships linked to JV entities
What skills do they need?
You will be an experienced in-house lawyer with a strong compliance background and the ability to operate across a broad range of regulatory areas. You should be comfortable working in a lean team and engaging directly with stakeholders.
You will bring:
  • Demonstrable experience across compliance areas such as sanctions, economic crime, fraud, competition and data protection
  • The ability to identify and assess risk quickly, providing clear and pragmatic advice
  • Experience running projects independently and driving them through to completion
  • Exposure to corporate and/or commercial legal work, ideally including joint ventures and governance matters
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to embed into the business and act as a visible and accessible point of contact
