Lawyers on Demand (LOD), a Consilio company, is assisting a rapidly growing national insurance defense law firm in seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Attorney to join its team on a long-term temporary basis. The firm’s preference is for attorneys who can work onsite or hybrid from its Newark, New Jersey office, though highly qualified remote candidates will also be considered.

Start: August or September 2026
Duration: At least 6 months, with potential for extension
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week; no overtime expected
Location: Ideally onsite or hybrid in Newark, NJ; strong remote candidates will also be considered
Compensation: $80/hour
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full civil litigation lifecycle for insurance defense matters
Take and defend depositions
Draft, propound, and respond to written discovery
Draft dispositive and substantive motions, including motions for summary judgment and motions in limine
Conduct case file reviews and assist with case strategy and overall matter management
Assist with trial preparation and, for attorneys with relevant experience or interest, potentially participate in trials
Collaborate with attorneys and legal teams to develop effective defense strategies and advance matters toward resolution
Prepare accurate and compliant billing narratives in accordance with insurance carrier requirements
Candidate Qualifications
5+ years of litigation experience, with a strong preference for insurance defense experience
Experience defending claims in one or both of the following areas:
Insurance coverage: Advising and advocating for insurance carriers on coverage-related matters
Tort / general liability: Including slip-and-fall, premises liability, and similar claims
Experience managing matters through discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation
Trial experience is not required, although candidates with trial experience or an interest in developing courtroom experience may have opportunities to participate in trials
Strong understanding of insurance defense billing practices, including the ability to prepare clear and acceptable time narratives
Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Active New Jersey bar license, in good standing, is required
Dual licensure in New Jersey and New York is highly preferred
