Lawyers on Demand (LOD), a Consilio company, is partnering with a respected university to recruit an Interim In-House Counsel. This is a full-time contract role.
Position Details
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Duration: 6-12 months
  • Hours: 40/week
  • Location: Hybrid in Nashville, TN
  • Compensation: $90/hr
Responsibilities
  • Independently manage complex legal matters and provide practical guidance to university leadership and internal stakeholders.
  • Advise on a broad range of institutional matters, including contracts, employment, compliance, governance, and student or academic issues.
  • Research and analyze complex legal and regulatory questions.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements, policies, and other legal documents.
  • Assist with disputes, investigations, and litigation, including working with outside counsel as needed.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the university while managing matters with appropriate autonomy.
  • Identify material legal and institutional risks and escalate significant issues when appropriate.
Requirements
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership.
  • Approximately 8–11 years of relevant legal experience preferred.
  • Experience handling sophisticated legal matters in an in-house, higher education, nonprofit, healthcare, government, or similarly complex institutional setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent legal judgment and provide practical, risk-conscious advice.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, drafting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
